The Coding Team Leader is responsible for assisting the HIM Director in supervising the department’s coding section. Other duties include:

Updating coding policies and procedures, identifies and institutes best practices to improve processes.

Monitors productivity and quality of work performed by coding team. Identifies ways to improve productivity and educates team members to improve quality.

Assists Director by demonstrating an active and positive role in evaluating staff performance and work-related attributes; utilizes evaluation as an effective management tool; completes evaluations in a timely manner.

Completes assignments/tasks on time; willing to adjust personal schedule to departmental needs; prepares for audits/reviews; fills in for absent team members.

Demonstrates the ability to provide leadership in complex assignments and the organization and performance of tasks and responsibilities at a proficient level.

Maintains a professional relationship with the medical staff, ancillary departments, coworkers and members of outside agencies.

Effectively conducts coding section orientation and in-service training.

Prepares work schedule; effectively utilizes team members within staffing guidelines; is flexible and able to adjust assignments according to changes in staffing.

Demonstrates effectiveness in planning for future needs, staffing requirements and utilization and material resources required; submits information for budget consideration on an ongoing basis.

Participates in educational programs, meetings, workshops and functions as required.
Minimum Qualifications:

Associates or Bachelors Degree, preferably in HIM
-
3 years acute care coding experience
-
1 year supervisory or lead experience
-
RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CPC-H and/or CPC
