Position Title: Senior Coding Specialist
Job Summary: Coding & Statistics, effectively ensures ongoing training and orientation of new coding staff and assists with continuing education for existing staff in regards to coding guidelines and current procedures. Responsible for monitoring compliance in the areas of coding and billing audits, clinical pertinence chart review, and other special studies/projects as assigned.
Requirements: Bachelor’s Degree in Health Information Management or equivalent training and experience. RHIA, RHIT, CCS, Nursing or work related experience in acute care coding. Medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, familiarity with medical record content and an understanding of the Uniform Hospital Discharge Data Set (UHDDS) definitions. Knowledge of ICD-9-CM/CPT4 coding principles under Prospective Payment System (DRGs and APCs). Minimum of five years experience in coding acute care medical records. Experience with a Peer Review Organization, in Quality Assurance or Utilization Review preferred. Supervisory experience or management training required.
